Markets Buzz Cryptocurrency Prices Today: Bitcoin Increases Moderately as Ethereum, Tether Decline
The global crypto market cap stood at $1.70 trillion on March 7, down 3.96 percent from the previous day. Total crypto market volume increased by 31.43 percent to $70.06 billion in the last 24 hours. After Ethereum, Blockchain Central Terra is now DeFi's network of choice
Terra, the rapidly growing DeFi toolkit built on Cosmos, is now officially the second largest ecosystem in decentralized finance.
According to data sourced from DeFi Lama, Terra currently has a net worth (TVL) of over $23 billion, the highest ever level in US dollars. This is almost twice as high as the runners-up BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain) and Phantom. Ethereum, the king chain, still dominates 54 percent of the entire DeFi market, which is valued at $111 billion. Read more here.
DeFi BuzzBitcoin Slip 6% Overnight, Back Below $40k
Dozens of tokens are falling in price following news of the departure of prolific developer Andre Cronje – including prices for many that are simply DeFi Maven's weak link. Frequent collaborator Anton Nel announced on Twitter that he and Cronje are in the "final chapter" on developing decentralized finance. Many observers assumed such an announcement was imminent, as Cronje deleted his Twitter account and updated his LinkedIn to reflect that he was no longer an advisor to the Phantom Foundation last week. Despite the warning signs, the market reacted violently to the news. The recently released Solidly, a hybrid automated market maker (AMM), is down as much as 75 percent on the day. Similarly, automation platform Keep3r is also down 25 percent, and lending platform Iron Bank is down 50 percent -- all founded by Cronje. Read here.
