Introduction to Descript.com
Descript.ai is a new tool that promises to make transcribing audio much easier and faster. Here's how it works: you upload an audio file, and the tool automatically transcribes it for you. You can then edit the transcript, add timestamps, and export it as a text or JSON file.
Why it’s important to transcribe interviews, podcasts, and videos
In an age where content is king, it's important to be able to transcribe audio so that you can create written versions of interviews, podcasts, and videos. This allows you to reach a wider audience, as not everyone has time to listen to audio files. Additionally, transcribing audio can help you create searchable content that can be easily found online. Descript.com is a new tool that makes transcribing audio easy and affordable. Simply upload your audio file and let the tool do the work for you. You can then edit the transcript to add in any missing words or make changes as needed.
Starting a transcript project with Descript.com
To get started with your transcription project, create a new project in the Projects tab and name it something descriptive like Interview with John Smith. Then, click the Add Media button to upload your audio file. You can also add video files, but they will be transcribed as well. Once your file is uploaded, you'll see a waveform of the audio and can begin transcribing by clicking on the Start Transcription button.
Step 1 – Create an account
You can create a free account at Descript.com. Just click the Signup button on the homepage and enter your email address and password. You’ll also need to agree to the terms and conditions. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be taken to your dashboard where you can start transcribing audio files.
Step 2 – Upload your audio file(s)
Now that you have Descript installed, it's time to start transcribing your audio files! To do this, simply click the Upload Files button in the top-right corner of the screen. This will open up a window where you can select the audio file (or files) you want to transcribe. Once you've selected your file(s), click Open and they will begin uploading to Descript.
Step 3 – Start your transcription
Start by clicking the Start Transcription button on the main screen. This will take you to the Transcribe page, where you can begin transcribing your audio. To start, simply click the Play button and start typing out what you hear. As you type, the text will be timestamped to match up with the audio. You can also use the Pause and Stop buttons to control playback. When you're finished transcribing, click the Save Transcript button to save your work.
Step 4 – Discuss the transcript and check the quality
If you're not satisfied with the results of your first transcription, don't worry! You can edit the text directly in the Transcript pane on the right-hand side of the screen. Just click on the text you want to edit and start typing. If you need to delete a section, just click on the trash can icon next to it.
Step 5 – Download the final transcript
Once you're happy with your edited transcript, you can download it as a plain text file or in other formats like .docx, .pdf, and more. You can also share it with others or embed it on your website.
